Accent Walls

Accent walls are an amazing way to spice up your room.

Usually bolder or more vibrant than the other walls, accent walls are typically the first wall to really grab your attention upon entering your room.

They really become your main focal point by standing out from the rest of the walls in the room.

It is common for bright citrus orange or a bright firetruck red to come to mind when thinking about accent walls when in fact, accent walls don’t necessarily have to be bright at all. They can be blue, green, purple, brown or whatever your heart desires!

What makes an accent wall an accent wall is the boldness of the shade that sets it apart from the rest.

So if you are trying to make your room “Pop”, try adding an accent wall with furniture, pillows, bedding, drapes and decorative pieces to match!

The first step to creating an accent wall is figuring out which room and which wall you’d like to liven. An accent wall is generally the first wall that catches your eye upon entering. Then you’ll want to decide what materials you’ll be using. Next, select your color(s). Decide which color(s) will work best with the designated room and think about what look you are going for. Whether it be a plain solid colored wall or pattern print wallpaper there are various ways to jazz up your room! Below are a few other ways to go about accentuating your accent wall:

Tiles

Have you ever considered using tile to create your accent wall? Tiling an accent wall allows you to design and produce your wall just the way you like. Tiled accent walls give you the opportunity to put your mind to work and your creativity to the test! This is an excellent way of personalizing your space because you are free choose any color or pattern that you wish! Not only that, but tiles allow you to choose the placement whether it be just a border or an entire wall. Tiled accent walls help to build character in any given space and is a fun project with an extremely exciting outcome!

Decals

An incredibly inexpensive, easy and effortless way to create an accent wall is by using decals. Decals are designs that are prepared on a special paper that allow it to be transferred to another surface- or in simpler terms, a sticker. Decals have become tremendously popular and can be found all over in stores such as Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, & even home depot. Decals are a breeze to apply and just as easy to remove. The best thing is, they won’t harm your walls. So if you go down this route and later decide it’s time for a change, just peel them right off and start fresh. Decals are a great way to add to a wall that is in need of a little extra attention!

Murals

Another great inexpensive way to help you design your accent wall is with a mural. Murals can be a little more complex than decals, but offer a better opportunity for you to implement your own ideas. Murals are often created by using paint but can also be done with pencil and other materials. Murals are paintings or other pieces of art that are applied directly to a wall to be displayed. Murals are a wonderful way to add energy and illusion to a plain wall. The cool thing about them is that they don’t require a professional. So if you’re feeling artsy, grab some paint & a brush and go to town!

Wood Pallet

If you are going for more of a rustic look, try a wood pallet accent wall. After taking them apart, cleaning and sanding them, wood pallets make for an amazing material for accent walls. Not only is it a fun DIY project, but the results are astonishing! What a great way to make use of pallets! Who would’ve thought you could make such a neat accent wall with recycled wood?
